Stamping out bullying is so important to us all. Every student has the right to work and socialise at the academy without fear of intimidation, threats or rudeness. Every student has the right to be treated with respect.
We have worked hard recently to change the way we deal with incidents of bullying by using highly structured Restorative Justice techniques. We feel that a sanction for the bully is not enough – the damage they have done to the other child’s well-being needs to be addressed.
We routinely mediate between students so they can discuss what has happened and aim to ensure it is not repeated. Sometimes we ask parents to be in these meetings to support and advise. RJ often helps everyone to feel the issue has been genuinely dealt with and the victim feel more assured.
We are always looking for ways to develop our expansive programme of pastoral care, so please contact us if you would like to have input into this.
If your child is being bullied, they must report this to their Year Team or Form Tutor, who will look into the incident and deal with it appropriately and as quickly as possible.
A record will be kept of the incident.
