At Victory we believe that sport is an extremely important part of the experience that our students receive.
Not only does it help to develop health and fitness, but it also helps to develop our students socially, morally and culturally. That is why, in addition to the many activities that are experienced within the curriculum, we aim to engage all our students in some form of sports enrichment before or after school.
Our Sports Enrichment programme is developed with the aim of sparking an interest in students of all ages, genders and abilities, and giving them the opportunity to try something new and discover an undiscovered talent! This year we have been able to offer our students more variety and depth in activities than ever before, some of which are offered off-site. New activities offered this year include: sailing, waterskiing, snow skiing, swimming and squash.
These are in addition to the more traditional sports clubs such as netball, badminton, football and rounders, in which students train and trial to represent the Academy against other Norwich schools in local competitive leagues. To acknowledge and reward the enthusiasm and ability of our students, half and full colour badges can be achieved by demonstrating commitment to any enrichment club and representing the Academy three times in a season.
We also try and enter teams of Victory students in as many diverse local Partnership or District competitions as possible, such as District Athletics at the UEA, Partnership Fishing and Partnership Aquathlon to enable our students to demonstrate a wide variety of talents.
Inter-college sport also plays an important role at Victory, encouraging mass participation in different sporting competitions throughout the year. Sports Captains play a vital role in selecting teams and assisting with the organisation of these events which encourage as many students as possible to participate and have fun representing their College. All members of the winning teams receive medals! Assistant Principals also tend to get very excited about these events!
The Sports Department are always keen to know what our students would like to see offered within the enrichment programme and encourage students to feedback any ideas/recommendations for how to improve the programme via Sports Captains and the Sports Council. This has resulted in some fantastic ‘taster days’ in different activities such as Archery and Wheelchair basketball which may appeal to different groups of students. So, if you want to try something that is currently not offered at Victory…let the Sports Team know, and we will try to organise it!
Reports of the activities we run are regularly featured in the academy’s fortnightly newsletter. Live updates can be found on the Victory Adventures and Victory PE Department twitter accounts.
